Good places can cut corners too

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

There are some small things that bother me about when news stories are put up, whether it’s implications, or a lack of context or other insignificant things that most people don’t pay attention to.

For instance, this story about the Prime Minister of Japan urging Tokyo and Beijing to unite in combating the world’s environmental and economic problems by AFP had a headline of “Aso calls for Japan, China to unite.”  Let your imagination run wild with that one.

Also, this story in Raw Story is disturbingly funny, but I thought that Raw Story knew who Neal Horsley was.  He’s been known as an ultra-whacko at least since he told Alan Colmes that there’s nothing wrong with sodomizing a mule.

He also said that there’s nothing hypocritical about sodomizing a mule while demanding the death of abortion doctors, going so far as to post the home addresses of these doctors on his website and calling the murderers who have killed abortion doctors heroes.  Back in the early 90′s he befriended Randall Terry and would-be murderer Paul Hill.

Egypt slaughters pigs to deal with swine flu

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Even though there are no reported cases in Egypt.  It’s a muslim country, but it grows pigs to feed non-muslim minorities like expats, Christians and such.  They’re on edge because they’ve had a problem with avian flu recently.

Byron York discovers why Obama is so popular

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

It’s because black people like him.  As a result, this makes his proposals “appear more popular than they actually are.”  It’s like how Nancy Pfotenhauer thought that the Democratic parts of Virginia were not “real Virginia,” or how Sarah Palin and others think that democrats are not REAL Americans.  No, if you only count the opinions of “Real” Americans, Obama’s not very popular.  Maybe if people like Byron York actually got out of the house every once in a while and talked to some people, he’d realize that America’s left him and his ilk behind.

It’s archive is free from 1851 to 1922 and 1987 to now.  From 1923 to 1986, articles are not free.  Why is that?

Wall Street sequel

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Here’s the story.  Michael Douglas is coming back as the ultra-greedy Gekko.  How will he survive in this kind of economic climate?

Also, if they want ultra-greedy characters, there are plenty on Wall Street right now who don’t realize that Gekko is a made up character.

And my bets are that 20th Century Fox’s spokesman isn’t using his real name.  “Gregg Brilliant,” I mean, come on!

John Amato is considering a run

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I’ve been reading Amato’s blog for a very long time.  He’s considering a run for congress against embattled Democrat Jane Harman.  More power to him.

The list

Media Matters compiles most of its footage of Conservatives going crazy since Obama became President and organizes them by theme.  They’ve got a sense of humor, grouping them with humorous titles like “Obama Derangement Syndrome” and (my favorite) “social-fasc-commun-Nazi-McCarthy-Marxism.”

It’s funny now, but it gets old real fast.

What continent are you studying, again?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

This is a picture of the front page of “Future Urban Research in Europe,”  a project headed by Bahaus University in Weimar, Germany to develop European Urban research.  Notice anything wrong with it?

future1

The picture on the front.  It’s not of a European city, despite having a focus on Europe Urban research.  That’s Chicago!  Chicago, for those of you at the Future Urban Research in Europe group who haven’t figured this out yet, is in North America.  Not Europe, the continent you study.

Chuck Norris is a blubbering loony

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Lots of reddit people are long-time fans of Chuck Norris who are watching his descent into right-wing loonyville with horror that a childhood hero is now one of THEM.

Via Ezra Klein’s twitter:

Chuck Norris notes that home schooling was outlawed by the Soviet state in 1919, by Hitler in 1938, and by Communist China in 1949.

And it’s still legal here.  What’s your point, Chuck?
